Dear Friends and Supporters,

September is National Suicide Prevention Month—which should be a time dedicated to raising awareness about suicide, offering support, and spreading hope. Sadly, as I write this, here in Palm Beach County the media are reporting on three suicides that happened here in the last day. This is a matter that touches all of us deeply. Having lost a sister to suicide many years ago, I am passionate about finding ways to prevent such tragedies for others.

Please, if you know someone who may be struggling, be sure they know they can call or text the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline any hour of the day or night – simply call or text 988 for immediate help.

National Suicide Prevention Month is a reminder that we all have a role to play in preventing suicide. Here at the Center for Family Services of Palm Beach County, we work to create a supportive environment where anyone can come to us and feel valued and heard.

You can help too! Here’s how:

Start the Conversation: It can be difficult, but talking openly about mental health and suicide is one of the most important things you can do. Ask how someone is feeling and be prepared to listen without judgment.

Share Resources: Let others know about the available resources. The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (988), 2-1-1 of Palm Beach and the Treasure Coast are good starting places.

Encourage Professional Help: Sometimes, the best way to support someone is by encouraging them to seek help from a mental health professional – and the Center for Family Services is here for them. Call 561-616-1222 for an appointment.

Be Present: Your support can make all the difference. Be there for someone who is struggling, whether it’s by offering a listening ear, spending time together, or simply checking in regularly.

Get Involved: Learn the warning signs. We also encourage you to take part in events and activities that promote mental health awareness and suicide prevention. Whether it’s joining a local walk, sharing your story, or simply donating to support our work, every action counts.

Let’s stand together this month—and every month—to make a difference. And Thank You for being part of this vital cause.

Warmly,

Todd L’Herrou, CEO
