Dear friends and supporters,

At Center for Family Services of Palm Beach County, we dedicate ourselves to healing the invisible wounds of trauma. For many of our clients, these wounds stem from experiences with abuse, leaving deep scars on the mind and spirit. In recognition of Human Trafficking Awareness Month, I want to shed light on a particularly insidious form of abuse: human trafficking.

It’s hard to believe that in 2024, modern-day slavery still exists. Yet, millions are trapped in its grasp, forced into labor, sexual exploitation, and domestic servitude. Sadly, the mental health consequences are profound.

People who have experienced human trafficking often endure physical and emotional abuse, isolation, and constant fear. The trauma from these experiences can manifest in a multitude of ways: post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, depression, dissociation, and even self-harm. Without help, the impact can linger indefinitely, impacting relationships, self-esteem, and the ability to cope with daily life.

At the Center, we see the human cost of trafficking firsthand. Survivors of this abuse can begin the path for healing within our walls. Our therapists, trained in trauma-informed care, provide a safe space for them to share their stories, confront their pain, and begin the journey towards healing.

And, it’s important to remember that healing is possible. With comprehensive therapy, support, and access to additional resources, survivors can reclaim their power and rebuild their lives. However, they cannot do it alone.

Here’s how you can help:

Educate yourself: Learn about the hidden signs of human trafficking. Be vigilant, especially around those at higher risk of human trafficking, like young people and migrant workers.

Report what you see: If you suspect trafficking, contact the National Human Trafficking Hotline at
1-888-373-7888 or text HELP or INFO to BeFree (233733).

Support organizations like ours: Your donations allow us to provide vital mental health services to survivors, helping them break free from the invisible chains of trauma.

Human trafficking is a complex issue, but by raising awareness, taking action, and supporting organizations like ours, we can work together to dismantle this horrific crime and help survivors heal.

With hope and determination,
